30,000

I posted a comment on Jolie Stekly's blog when she asked about December goals: my goal, no longer a secret, is to reach 30,000 words on my work in progress by the end of the year. I'm about about 19,500 now so in theory, that shouldn't be impossible. In theory.

But with the holidays comes travel, gift-buying, and fattening, all of which provide ample excuse not to write.

At 30,000 words I should be well into the story; it should have its teeth well into me.

We'll see where I am on January 1. Will it be 30,000 words? Or will sugar-induced lethargy win the day?

You can do it, S.R.! If only for the licorice. And there will be licorice. I'll be checking in soon.

Thanks, Jolie! I think I added 1100 words or so this morning. Was that today? Yesterday? No, I think it was today. Feels like a different world, all coffee and darkness. And I have no idea what I wrote.

I think you are the first person on the planet to call me "S.R." It has a tweedy British stuffiness to it, like I should have a walrus mustache and spend my days at the Club, don't you know, complaining about the railroad barons, swilling brandy, and calling everybody by their initials. Also I would use the word "deuced" whenever possible.

I picked it for my blog title in a fit of shyness, then forgot about it. I'm Seth, but S.R. is much more interesting, deuce it all.
